Week 16a Information Graphics Design

Infographics- Graphic designers use the word Infographics for graphic designed. it is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. In 1626, Christoph Scheiner published the Rosa Ursina sive Sol, a book that revealed his research about the rotation of the sun. Infographics appeared in the form of illustrations demonstrating the Sun’s rotation patterns. Infographics are important for graphic designing because charts are needed to show statistics without using only words. Charts and graphs are helpful and although they may be time consuming, they are better to use.

Week 14a- Print Ready Design-Layout Terms

  1. Font (serif & sans-serif): Typography, a sans-serifsans serif, gothic, san serif or simply sans typeface is one that does not have the small projecting features called "serifs" at the end of strokes. The term comes from the French wordsans, meaning "without".
  2. Margin: In print, "margin" typically refers to page borders, while on the Web it describes the spacing between elements on a webpage.
  3. Guide (illustrator guides): Guides help you align text and graphic objects. You can create ruler guides (straight vertical or horizontal lines) and guide objects (vector objects that you convert to guides).
  4. Bleed: When any image or element on a page touches the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge, leaving no margin it is said to bleed
  5. CMYK: The CMYK color model (process color, four color) is a subtractive color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself. CMYK refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
  6. Image Resolution: Image resolution is the detail an image holds. The term applies to raster digital images, film images, and other types of images. Higher resolutionmeans more image detail. Image resolution can be measured in various ways.
  7. Proof Copy: final sample of printed material created by the printer prior to the full print run to get final approval from the print buyer of the copy and layout.
  8.  Artboard: An on-screen design surface in a drawing application.
  9. Registration Mark: A registration mark is commonly used with printing to help ensure the print is aligned properly.
